Whats changed? nothing. The PS3 was selling for that figure anyway and the elite is going to be cheaper.

You mean the upgraded Pro will be more expensive?
If the pricing you predict does happen then 360 looks to be on a winner with both skus cheaper than the Wii and the price difference between the 360 and PS3 remaining the same. Actually at those prices if the 360 doesn't consistently outsell the Wii it's rather a bad sign for the 360. At least the PS3 has the excuse that it's still more expensive than the Wii.
I don't quite understand why the PS3 is the same price as the current Pro (and soon to be Elite) in the USA and Eurozone, but will keep the same price difference in the UK. Has Sony given up on the PS3 in the UK? I vaguely recall some mention of exchange rates and Wii price increase. Never mind, hop across the Chunnel and pick up a PS3 while on a weekend trip in Paris.
Looks like the same thing will happen here in NZ and in Aussie where the Elite will be considerably cheaper than the PS3, and the PS3 will remain above the really attractive price limit. IN Aussie it needs to be in the mid to low $400 range, here in NZ it needs to be in the mid to low $500s. Instead it will be in the high $400s and high $500s respectively. Given the NZD is worth about 67c US atm that means we will be paying nearly as much as the PS3 cost in the US before the price cut. Convert our price to Yen and it comes out at well above 40K Yen.
PS3 won't see a huge spike in sales here either, I think. It seems Commonwealth countries are for the shaft.
