Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in Japan - October 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 145,716 - Switch 2

Total Lead: 1,276,288 - Switch 2

October 2025 is the 5th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 0.15 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is now ahead of the Switch 1 by 1.28 million units.

The 5th month for the Switch 2 is October 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is July 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 2.57 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 1.29 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 36.20 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 33.63 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - October 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

Gap change over last 12 months: 596,200 - PS4

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 7,131,665

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 7,962,265

October 2025 is the 60th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 0.16 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.60 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.83 million units.

The 50th month for the PS5 in Japan is October 2025, while for the PS4 it is January 2019. The PS5 has sold 7.13 million units, while the PS4 sold 7.96 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 8 million in month 61, 8.5 million in month 68, and 9 million in month 72. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.55 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned Europe sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Europe and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 Europe:

October 2025 is the 5th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 0.12 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is now ahead of the Switch 1 by 0.94 million units.

The 5th month for the Switch 2 is October 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is July 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 2.31 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 1.37 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 39.24 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 36.93 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in the US - October 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 US:

October 2025 is the 60th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 0.11 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.65 million units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 0.98 million units.

The PS5 has sold 26.95 million units in 60 months, while the PS4 sold 25.97 million units. Month 60 for the PS5 is October 2025 and for the PS4 is October 2018.

The PS4 crossed 27 million in month 61 and 30 million in month 71. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 7.98 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

The 5th month for the Switch 2 is October 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is July 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 3.02 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 1.79 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 48.44 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 45.42 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

Switch vs DS Sales Comparison - October 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan, and March 2005 in Europe, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 5.45 million units. The DS is ahead of the Switch by 1.30 million units.

The 104th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is October 2025, while for the DS it is June 2013. The Switch has sold 152.34 million units, while the DS sold 153.63 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo DS sold 154.02 million units lifetime. The Nintendo Switch is currently 1.68 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox One has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 5.81 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently behind the Xbox One by 9.20 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 33.88 million units in 60 months, while the Xbox One sold 43.08 million units. Month 60 for the Xbox Series X|S is October 2025 and for the Xbox One is October 2018.
