Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft Might Have Just Won the Next Gen (Trade Tariff)

Switch, Xbox One, Playstation are all made outsides of america.

This wouldnt win the xbox a gen (in the us).

It would make all consoles more expensive (next gen) which means the USA will become less relevant to console gameing in the future if it comes to pass.

HAHAHAHA, cant wait to see those Xbox plants popping up in America. Gonna at least double the price of the XBox not making them in china.

Nope all that will happen is watch your US prices rise across the board on all imported products, including Xbox.

Actually, it's not so much where it's manufactured, but more so where it's sold from.  I think that's the most common misconception.  The X-box One is manufactured in China, but it's still an American product since its parent company is an American company.  That's where it becomes an import to other countries regardlesss of where it's manufactured.

Phil Spencer was going to make the Scorpio a competitive price.....but not after this xD

To be fair it wouldn't be that much more expensive to produce Xbox's in the USA. It would mean Microsoft has a slightly lower profit margin, but that's it.

Does America even have the infrastructure for creating electonics anymore, is there any existing factories that could take on an order of manufacturing consoles?

I think the costs are more than you think.

Trade tariffs start trade wars. If you think the rest of the world will sit idly by while the USA puts ridiculous taxes on every foreign product then you're sadly mistaken. I hope you Americans are going to enjoy all the steep price increases to your favorite products though.

If the netherlands can manufacture network equipment and house on of the largest chipmakers in the world, the USA can produce some consoles. Those factories in China also need kapital injections, and while of course building a new factory would cost money, it's not impossible for a financial juggernaut like the USA.

Trump was talking about applying a tariff on Ford products made in Mexico.  Ford is an American company.  The whole purpose is to force American corporations to bring manufacturing jobs back.

Though, probably no one would do it.  It would cost billions to move production to the United States.  Why do that when they can just raise prices and point to Trump as the reason?  The net effect is that Americans would just have to pay more.

But a car factory will always cost more then a factory that produces small household electronics.
