Can anyone explain to me what was it about? It's been a while since I've been so disoriented about the plot of a videogame and managed to finish it. But seriously, what was that?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Never played, but sounds like my kind of game =)

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I heard that this game is freaky as hell. I need to play it sometime.

Jennifer is having a flashback of her time in the orphanage as she rests on the park bench, remembering events as an innocent child would; with a veneer of fantasy to explain the things she was too young to understand. Even though she perceives herself as an adult in most of the memories, she remembers herself as the meek and helpless girl who allowed the other children to bully and abuse her.

As for a summary of the plot, Jennifer was the lone survivor of a blimp accident, and was cared for by Gregory, who lost his own son, Joshua, and used Jennifer as a replacement. While she was Gregory's 'son' she befriends a sickly girl named Wendy and runs away to the orphanage. There, she is hazed by the other children known as the Red Crayon Aristocrats, who are under the 'rule' of the Princess of the Red Rose.

Jennifer finds a puppy and names it Brown and develops a deep bond with the animal, which allows her to cope with the abuse. Wendy becomes notably jealous. Soon, Brown disappears and it is revealed that Wendy is actually the Princess of the Red Rose, and has ordered the other children to beat the poor dog to death so that Jennifer will continue to love her most. This does not go as planned and Jennifer finally musters up the courage and anger to retaliate and hit Wendy. Wendy is dethroned and Jennifer is now the boss of the Red Crayon Aristocrats.

However, Wendy takes advantage of the mentally unstable Gregory, and the myth of the stray dog, to trick him into believing that she's Joshua and manipulate him into going after the other children. Unfortunately, he goes beyond her intentions and kills them, then turning on her when she reveals herself to be Wendy. If you don't kill Gregory with the gun given to you by Wendy at the end, it is shown that Jennifer survives the massacre by returning Gregory's gun to him, causing him to make the decision to shoot himself in his grief.

In Jennifer's final memory, she re imagines a peaceful time at the orphanage and goes to see Brown. In the end, she locks away his memory, promising to never forget him again.

I hope this helps clear things up. That's a broad explanation of the story so if there are any details that still confuse you, I'll try to clear them up. It's been awhile, though.

Edit: Oh, and to answer some of the questions in the poll:

Brown died as a puppy during the events explained above. I see it as him representing a source of strength and motivation during the flashback, and Jennifer viewing him as he would be, rather than he was.

The events actually happened, but the game is a flashback and remembered in a fantastical way since Jennifer was a child at the time.

Children are all cruel.

The imps seem to be a generic representation of Jennifer's fears. The other animal humanoids represent the children.

The flashback is a fantasy and a mixture of all of Jennifer's jumbled memories. The blimp setting represents the blimp accident Jennifer survived. My view is that she subconciously recalls it as a place where horrific events and great loss occured, similiar to the orphanage.

Sorta. Mostly. Bad stuff went down but I imagine it, for the most part, was closer to Jennifer's final memory.

Rule of Rose refers to the Prince and Princess of the Red Rose, who lead the Red Crayon Aristocrats. Joshua was the prince before he died, which is why he appears in the game at points to taunt Jennifer, though as far as I can tell she never met him in person
