Forums - Sony - Sony Blames China’s Censorship Rules for Limited Sales

Tagged games:

China lifted a 14-year ban on game consoles in 2014, which allowed Sony and Microsoft to release their own platforms there.

Even though it has been more than a year since it launched, China’s censorship rules are limiting the PS4 sales, according to Sony Computer Entertainment Chief Executive Officer Andrew House.

House believes that these rules are “time-consuming,” since they have to adjust some stuff to make it suitable.

“We are still challenged somewhat with a censorship regime that we have to work with. This can be time-consuming,”

He knows that the launch sales aren’t great, but he sees “tremendous potential for gaming as an entertainment medium in China.”

“I don’t think it has been a kind of a rocket launch start.”

China’s censorship mostly prevents anything that “promotes obscenity, drug use or violence,” which is a whole category of games out there.

Nintendo should technically do well there so, although Mario is a heavy drug user.

And one might argue that he's a violent man riddled with greed because he steals the Mushroom Kingdoms gold, stomps on it's local inhabitants to death to stop Browser's rebellion and restore the Monarchy...
