IT'S JAPAN VS USA, ONCE MORE WITH ROBOTS

Them's fighting words.

Hot on the heels of their Women's World Cup clash, Japan and the US may be in for another fight, this time with giant robots.

Having completed work on its Mark 2 model, US-based robotics company MegaBots issued a challenge late last month:

"Suidobashi, you have a giant robot, we have a giant robot. You know what needs to happen."

In the red, white, and blue corner - via CNN - the MegaBots Mark 2 weighs in at a staggering six tonnes, fires 3-pound paint cannonballs at speeds of over 100 miles per-hour, and requires two pilots. It’s said MegaBots plans to create a UFC-style sports league, albeit with robots instead of people. Think Robot Wars, only with mechs instead of motorised vacuums.

On Sunday, Japan responded. Suidobashi Heavy Industry, the company behind the behemoth named the Kuratas – a single-piloted mech that’s already commercially available – responded by having CEO Kogoro Kurata saying, "I'll fight. Absolutely."

As per the rules of robot combat, both companies now have a year to make any modifications prior to the two robots battling one another.

"It's interesting, I'll give them that," Kurata says in a video response on July 5. "But come on guys, make it interesting! Just building something huge and sticking guns on. It's... Super-American."

If you’re thinking of entering the fray, don’t forget you can always create your own robots out of used car parts.

Wesley Copeland is a freelance news writer and needs just under a million bucks to buy a Kuratas from Amazon. But you probably already guessed that. For more obvious statements, you should probably follow him on Twitter.

Are you hyped for this? Because I am! I hope it's better than Pacquaio Vs Mayweather!

Seems like it might be dangerous for the pilots.
