Forums - Sales - Brasil Sales Rankings - January 2014

In the wake of brazillian market as the fourth country in the world in gaming market, and fifth in consoles alone(take that, random europe first world country), it's time to start track down this sales. The data is from GFK brasil, and is publish monthly by veja magazine. They only give us the ranks, not actuall sales off each game(like in UK), and monthly, not weekly. They realease some notes too, but i not this month, appeareantly. The numbers were around here for some time, but i tried to get a declaration from gfk about the official launch of PS4, X1 and WiiU, but so far nothing. So, don't expect them to start traciking next-gen for now. The numbers:

X360:

1 FIFA 2014

2 GTA V

3 PES 2014

4 Just Dance 2014

5 Minecraft

6 Call Of Duty: Ghosts

7 PES 2013

8 Kinect Sports: Ultimate Collection

9 BF4

10 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Signature Ed.

PS3

1 FIFA 14

2 GTA V

3 Gran Turismo 6

4 PES 2014

5 Call of Duty: Ghost

6 BF 4

7 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Signature Ed.

8 FIFA Soccer 2013

9 God of War: Ascension

10 Batman: Arkham Origins

Wii

1 Just Dance 2014

2 Just Dance 4

3 Super Mario Galaxy 2

4 Nintendo Selects: Super Mario Galaxy

5 New Super Mario Bros

6 Super Smash Bros Brawl

7 The Legend of Zelda Twiligth Princess

8 Mario Party 9

9 Wii Sports

10 Chaves

Last month(December): http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=177364&page=1

So, virtually no new games on any plattaform. On 360 we have the return of PES 2013. On PS3, we saw the return of Batman(not the movie :P). On wii the we have Chaves as the new entry of the chart, for the frst time ever. It's a tie-in to a cartoon(that is horrible) to a comedic mexican show(that is awsome). This comedic show aimed for kids has been reprised for over 3(maybe 4) decades and to this day i still laugh at the best episodes. They made a cartoon that ruined it, but gained some traction and release a game for Brazilian public. Never played, and if by the premisse that a game is aways worse than the show, avoid this like was the son of satan.

Again, props to warner, because the game has localization, a thing still odd between some publisher(specially nintendo). But should be noted: the localization is horrible(maybe this explain why they are at 10th place).

Anyway, no word on how was 2013 for brazillian industry still a let down, there should be some comments.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

We can have an idea of how next gen systems are performing through online retailers daily rankings. Casas Bahia, Siciliano and Saraiva are good places to take a look, since they have a daily Top50. Generally, for hardware X360>XOne/3DS>PS3>WiiU>Wii>PSP>PS2 (I've never seen PS4 and PSVita in the Top50).

X360 and PS3 software sales are far bigger than all the other, but DKC:TF (didn't lauch here yet) and SM3DW are selling well for WiiU and Bravely Default, Zelda ALBW and Pokemon X/Y have been the 3DS best selles for some time. XOne has Forza and Dead Rising doing well, but best sellers are Rayman, Assassin's Creed and FIFA. For PS4, the best exclusive seems to be KillZone, but, just like for XOne, best sellers are Rayman, Assassin's Creed and FIFA.

Keep in mind that it is just an estimative based on daily rankings from three of the biggest online retailers in Brazil and it DOES NOT INCLUDE GRAY MARKET.

So the brazilians like football, gang shootings and dancing.
I think their display of the brazilian stereotype is racist.

That's not much different on how people go to amazon, best buy and gamestop to incorrectly estimate data.....

OT: Without any hard data, it's hard to gauge just how healthy, or unhealthy, the brazilian game market is.

I know it must be incorrect, just saying, since we have no hardware charts, that it might give an idea of how are sales. The last official numbers for hardware in Brazil are from May 2013, and there is no data from Nintendo consoles and handhelds. All they said is that there were 9,2mi X360 and 8,4mi PS3 players in Brazil. You can see it at http://olhardigital.uol.com.br/noticia/brasileiros-preferem-xbox-360-a-playstation-3/34659  MS also confirmed that they can manufacture around 17k consoles in Brazil per week some time ago. There is probably some interesting data at http://www.jogojusto.com.br/ but I have not searched.

Good deal. I have read that the PS3 got a huge price drop after Sony started manufacturing it in Brazil. 360 and XBO are somewhat affordable in Brazil because MS has been manufacturing it there for a long time. Sony is trying to get PS4s manufactured there for that reason as well. Nintendo could learn a lesson or two here.
