So I pre ordered Watch Dogs on Wii U. So for all of you wondering, "What the hell are you thinking?", here's a collection of my thoughts.
-I know I'm going to wait awhile. That's okay. I'm backlogged with games right now.
-I don't fault Ubisoft for delaying it on Wii U. For all we know, the delay last November was to help the Wii U version catch up in development (among other things like GTAV being out at the same time, not stealing the thunder from ACIV, general issues with the Watch Dogs game overall).
-Here's some more speculation: I don't think a WiiU version of Watch Dogs was ever even in Ubisoft's orginal plans. But, A bunch of guys in Bucharest got a hold of the build Ubi Montreal had and started to get it running on WiiU. From there, interest sprouted in actually producing it... eventually. At that time, shipping the X1/PS4/360/PS3/PC versions was weighing much more heavily on everyone's minds. But assuming it actually sells at/above AC Wii U levels, it'll be profitable. I fully anticipate getting it in 2014.
-I know visually it won't be at the same level as X1 and PS4, but it sounds like it'll look better than the PS3/360 versions. Sweet! Though if it looked like/performed like the PS360 versions, I'd be happy with that. I have a 720p 32" Samsung HD. In my situation, I don't think the difference in graphics would be that easy to detect in some circumstances anyway.
-I'm a big fan of the assymetrical gameplay Wii U offers. And based on the hacking scenes I've observed in the game, I'm excited for how that's executed on the GamePad.
-And there's the release date. NIntendo will be in the spotlight May 30 to provide a stellar online experience for Mario Kart 8. Not that Watch Dog's online multiplayer necessarily would throw a wrench in that -- but depending how the Nintendo Network is structured, it may hinder the speed and performance of the Wii U experience. Assuming you have a large set of new users, you want to avoid that if possible.
-In the online multiplayer, I want to have a chance. If there's no online multiplayer at all in the Wii U version, I think I'll still be happy with the game.
-I almost never buy DLC for any game. So missing out on some potential DLC is not going to make a big difference to me.
-The game itself looks awesome. Ubisoft seldom underdelivers with titles like these.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
