Forums - Sony Discussion - Outlast Runs at 1080p@60fps on PS4

Expected because the only last-gen game on PS4 is Battlefield 4 for now.

--

Outlast was easily one of the scariest games of 2013. To top it all, it even won GamingBolt’s Best Indie Game and PC Game of 2013 Awards. Now the scares are coming to PlayStation 4 as Outlast will be a part of PlayStation Plus in February and available for free to subscribers.

In order to know more about the PS4 version, we got in touch with Philippe Morin, co-founder of development team Red Barrels.

The demand behind 60 frames per second – despite some damn good looking games like Ryse: Son of Rome running at 30 FPS – is as high as ever, and the question for a next gen release will always be whether or not it runs at full HD 60 FPS. Fortunately for PlayStation 4 users, Philippe has confirmed with GamingBolt that Outlast will run at 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution.

It was revealed not too long ago that the single core speed of the PlayStation 4′s CPU is lower than that found in a high-end PC. We asked whether this created any CPU thread management issues on the PS4, to which he replied: “We didn’t run into any issues. We’re using all the cores and the [amount of] RAM also helps.”

He also revealed that there are no differences between the PC and PlayStation 4 versions. “As far as we’re concerned, both versions look the same,” he said.

Outlast will be available in February for the PlayStation 4. You can check out our review of the excellent PC version here.

Is BF4 really the PS4's only 1080p game? o.o

Edit: Non-1080p :P

The only non-1080p? Then I think yes, yes it is.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Hardly surprising outlast is not exactly a power house, but damn scariest game ever. Made me jump and scream outloud a few times. Cannot see it being as scary playing on console on the couch though.

And this is me thinking BF4 was 900p. Thanks for correcting me... I think.

*Note: The PC Community has figured out a way to up the game to 120fps+ (or unlocked frame-rate, pre v-sync). I wish some of the PS4 devs would do this more, leave it unlocked with v-sync as an option (ala Bioshock).

I want that too

I tell you what, The Last Guardian on PS4 will run at 900p (if not 720p) because otherwise really wont make the jump look very big from PS3. What's the point of increasing resolution when the graphics are hardly improved?

Resolution is misleading. It's wrong to judge the game straightaway according to its resolution rather than the level of detail and effects.

lol Wut?

Were all those PS2 HD remakes on PS3, still 480P "When the graphics are hardly improved"

Definatly the mose nonsence post ive read today.

Are you kidding, no?

Every first-party game on PS4 will be 1080p... deal with it... and I think right now every 3rd-party game will be 1080p (the time to PS4 shows sub-1080p games passed).

Well yeah, Killzone:SF runs at around 40fps in singleplayer, 50 - 60 in multi... 1080p above 30fps is expected on the PS4.
