In a recent interview, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Director Naoki Yoshida mentioned that the PS4 version of the game would run at 30 frames per second in order to display as many characters as possible, but things may be changing.
Today the PS4 version of the game is playable at the “Full Active Time Event in Osaka” fan gathering that will culminate in the latest Letter from the Producer Live broadcast, and attendees are reporting that a switch towards 60 FPS.
For example twitter user NOnTaRo writes:
"The PS4 version runs at 60 FPS! It’s smooth!" -
#FF14

Quite obviously we shouldn’t expect 60 FPS in every situation, as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a MMORPG that can often display a considerable number of characters on screen. In this kind of game the load on the GPU is extremely variable and even a very beefy gaming PC struggles to hold 60 FPS in very crowded areas.
Since the reports come from event attendees and not from an official source, we should take this with a grain of salt until it gets confirmed by an official announcement or we see it running ourselves, but this is quite promising.
