STORY
The only crystal left to the world lies in the Kingdom of Lucis. Upon striking a peace with the garrison state of Niflheim, Lucis rejoices in having at last brought the cold war to a close. Their celebrations, however, are premature. Under the guise of amity, Niflheim dispels the anti-armament runewall and launches a full-scale invasion of the kingdom. The peaceful lives Crown Prince Noctis and his entourage once knew are consumed by the flames of war as they struggle to mount a resistance.

CHARACTERS

NOCTIS LUCIS CAELUM (middle)
A childhood affliction endowed Noctis, heir apparent to the throne of Lucis, with the mystical power to see a heavenly light, through which he could sense others’ deaths. Noctis rejects rigid royal conventions and acts as somewhat of a renegade, much to the dismay of those who tend to him. Yet while “Noct” may act brash at times, he does so in defense of those loyal to him.
Noctis' weapons are quite unique, and should make for quite a large part of the game play variations in the game, as he has many, many weapons at his fingertips. He doesn't carry or sheath his swords or holster his guns, they're simply with him. He seemingly wills them into materialization in an instant, dozens of them, rapidly. The amount of weapon switching seen is simply mind-boggling

GLADIOLUS AMICITIA (2nd from left)
As lord of the noble House Amicitia, Gladiolus continues a line sworn to protect the crown. “Gladio” shares a friendship with Noctis that transcends birth and title, and his loyalty to his liege is born not of duty, but of brotherhood.
Gladiolus fights with his bare hands and can use larger and heavier weapons like pile bunkers and broad swords.

IGNIS STUPEO SCIENTIA(2nd from right)
Ever the unwavering voice of reason, Ignis was weaned on shrewd logic and a classical education from boyhood so that he might one day counsel the would-be king, Noctis. He applies the deep mutual understanding and trust they have built over time to help smooth over Noctis’s brusqueness with others..
Ignis specializes in support-style attacks. He is a strong magic user and can throw knives and many other weapons. He wields a katana blade.

PROMPTO ARGENTUM(left)
The puckish playboy Prompto befriended Noctis in his school days. He wears a chip on his shoulder as an outsider to the royal circle, but remains eager to do all he can for the cause.
Prompto is a gunner. With this character, the player will be able to display a targeting reticule, which will allow you to aim for weak points on an enemy. Noctis can use guns but only has an auto aim function. His aiming is useful for large monsters that have weak points in various areas and can be targeted for positional damage.

COR LEONIS(right)
A living legend of Lucian lore, Lord Commander Cor Leonis’s devotion to the art of war is surpassed only by that to his king. Little love is lost between the ill-starred stalwart and Noctis’s retinue, yet honor binds him to keep watch over the group all the same.

STELLA NOX FLEURET
Stella has been described as an unfortunate enemy of Noctis, as in, the two likely don't want to fight one another, but they must simply due to their allegiances. Stella hails from the Fleuret family from the Kingdom of Tenebrae. She is the only confirmed enemy character for the game so far, with virtually no other detail known.
She converses in very soft and polite way, generally goes directly to the point at hand and doesn’t fear a harsh reply. She doesn’t take things too seriously, but she will learn along the way that things are not the way we want, ever.
Stella has the ability to see the “Light” just like Noct has. She speaks openly about it without any restraints, feels intrigued by it and searches for answers on her first meeting with the Prince.

REGIS LUCIS CAELUM
Regis is the king of Lucis Kingdom and the father of Noctis. He will not give up the throne and will be the final king

IDOLA ELDERCAPT
This man is the leader of Niflheim and is after Lucis Kingdom’s crystal. He is seen in a standoff, pointing a gun at Regis Lucis Caelum. Nomura said that the white robed character we see in the 1st PD trailer is not the same as the one from trailers before it. The two men are different. The E3 2013 trailer reveals hints that his name is Idola Eldercapt.

Unnamed characters.

THERE WILL BE DAY AND NIGHT CYCLES
The day and night cycles and cloud formations are done by physical calculation. It was decided to be made this way to have a smooth change between the cycles and to have a much more dynamic lighting system, which reflects the mood of a certain region/place.

With addition to the day and night cycle, players will find different beasts at different times of day.

THE BATTLE SYSTEM

--Final Fantasy XV’s battle system will draw the nostalgic feeling from old Final Fantasy titles and blend it with a whole new concept. The fast action and the pace will be similar to the battles of Kingdom Hearts but united with new mechanics. The actions the characters perform after selecting commands for them is close to that of Kingdom Hearts. Battles will also not just take place on the floor, you will find youself fightning vertically on the side of tall buildings aswell. --There is also a third person shooter view if your holding a gun type weapon, Nomura says he's done this to make it easier to control the player with the type of weapon you want to use.
--Players will also be able to do party combo attacks to link moves together, For example, you could have noctis use a magic attack to knock a enemy away then quickly switch to another party member to carry on attacking and link up the attack
--Party members may also jump in to protect you during battle, for example Gladiolus is seen jumping in front of a player when a huge moster goes in for a hit on them and blocks in with his massive sword.
--Players will also be able to climb on to huge enemies for tactle riding, or getting to weak spots on the enemy.
--Player will be able to select a wide range of weapons, each have there own style of attacks and moves, These weapons range from Swords, axes, lances, handguns, shotguns machine guns, bazookas and many more.
--Every player can use magic, but the special 'light' magic that Noctis and stella possess is different to the normal battle magic.
--Players can team up to help each other in battle, for example, in the trailer where the party is battling a iron Sword, noctis manages to knock his massive sword from his grasp and him and gladiolus help each other pick up the weapon to swing it down on the enemy and finish him off seen here at 2.49 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOYaiR0obRc
--Not confirmed, but weapons weight seems to affect the speed the player attacks, in the E32013 trailer Noctis appears to attack much more slowly when holding a bigger heavier sword.
--you can clash swords with the enemy while fighting them in battle, you can also knock the weapon out the enmies hand.

PARTY
The party consists of 3 members, during the early stages the party will be selected for you, but as you progress you will be able to pick your own party, however Noctis will always have to be a member. You are also able to quick switch between party members in battle. If noctis dies then its Game Over. The confirmed party members so far are Noctis, Gladiolus, Prompto, Ignis and Cor.

SUMMONS
you will be able to summon in FFXV but you will have to defeat the Beasts first. Summons also have a ranking system, For example the leviathan is a high ranking summon due to the fact its the size of a skyscraper and very powerful.

OTHER DETAILS
--the developers say some of the locations have took inspoiration from real world locations, ie Lucis is based on tokyo style and accordo is  based on venice style.
--forests and wastelands are also in the game.
--Apperantly players will experience slight differences in the game, i.e Nomura said there's one part of the game when fighting a behemoth in a city that the behemoth will destroy a big bridge if you decide to cross it while in the fight, but if you dont then the bridge will stay intact.
--The environments will be very interactive aswell. The city scene where Noctis is fighting the Behemoth is full of destroyable objects such as trees and electricity poles for example. In the 1st Department Premiere trailer, you end up fighting the Behemoth on a three level freeway area where the road has been damaged so you'll need to move around by jumping. The buildings that line the road have some emergency stairwells that can be entered and climbed to get to the roof with Noctis then pulling himself to the very by using the air conditioner. These are just some examples on how interactive the game will be.
--Aswell as interactive environments, the game will have a number of 'flashback events' inwhich the story will go back to when Noctis was a child, these events will also be interactive.
--World maps are back (people will be happy about that)
--Airships are also back. so players will be able to fast travel by using airships.
--Chocobos will also be in the game
--Airships wont be the only vehicles you can drive, there will be also be a variety of modern vehicles to take control of like mechs and tanks.
--As usual with FF games, you will encounter enemies weve all come used to battling against in the open maps.
--monsters will vary from being small to huge.
--Nomura says the story will get people really involved and will have some gamers crying at points (not sure about this, never cryed at a game before)
--as you may of noticed the characters names are all Latin and have there meanings.
--voice acting started in 2011, english voice acting has also started.
--it will have a darker theme to it than previous final fantasy games.
--Nomura says, although it is more action based it will feel like a final fantasy game.
--The switch from PS3 to PS4 and XB1 was because they was very ambitous and want to do alot with the game and it wasn't possible on PS3/360 so now they have the freedom to do so.
--Some words main theme words to describe FFXV are "misery" and "bonds".
--Nomura is looking into some sort of online/multiplayer aspect.
--the game is still part of the Fabula nova Crystalis set of games, and although it is a completely different story to FFXIII it has the goddess Etro who is worshipped as a Fal'Cie in this game.
--tetsuya nomura has said hes considering a companion app for IOS and android to go alongside the game.

Didn't they promised to not do any more than 2 years dev cycle a while ago ?

Edit : I said bullshit. They never said that, but they complained a lot the last 2 years about too long developpment and making franchise with main episode spaced 1-2 years max.

I don't want to be a party popper but I think the direction they are taking is wrong.

I know turn based combat is not modern enough but the flashy combat from KH is not suited for Final Fantasy . I want to have faith on the game but I don't like the direction they are taking.

Well, Lightning Returns ( aka XIII-3 ) was just released in Japan (November 21) , set for release early next year for the rest of the world.

My guess that XV will be release late 2015 in Japan, early 2016 for us ... and I'm being optimistic.

The more I think about this game, the more excited I become. Depending on price cuts and unannounced games, this could well be the game which makes it impossible to resist getting a PS4 for me (hopefully it falls near christmas or my birthday). So hyped! I've made a resolution to play some more previous FFs before this beauty arrives
