Here is part three of my head-to-head series. Hopefully third time's the charm :)

Once again, the idea is to compare contemporaneous games of similar genres, styles, etc.

Up this week is Unreal Tournament versus Quake III Arena, two of the most successful multiplayer first-person shooters ever made. They arrived within a month of each other in 1999 and went on mesmerize PC fans (and console fans, eventually) with their blend of frenetic action, "twitch" shooting, awesome weapons, extensive customization, and multiplayer options second-to-none.

So who do you like in this match-up of multiplayer marauders? Whose bots are best? Whose guns are greatest? Whose frags are finest?

Oh, easily UT. My favorite FPS ever.

ut

Unreal Tournament for me as well.

Both games are really good, but Unreal Tournament by far.

FPS now days are garbage in comparison, I think. FPS games have actually degraded with their popularity this gen in comparison to past gens where games in popular genres were actually better than past releases. UT3 was good, but everything now is a CoD clone.

Unreal Tournament. To me the translocator and secondary weapon abilities made it a much more tactical twitch shooter than Q3A. Maps like Niven, Facing Worlds, Lava Giant, Gauntlet, among many others (these are all CTF) were simply unmatched by anything Q3A offered imho.

Q3A is more of a DM kind of game. UT is more of a CTF game imho.
