According to CGMagazine, the upcoming home console from Valve, called the Steambox, could potentially outpower the PS4. Considering that the system's main focus will be high end PC hardware, it being more powerful doesn't shock me in the least. That being said though, the systyem will most likely also be expensive as hell, cater only toward the hardcore PC audience that, and it's only method of gameplay will be streaming via Steam. Peronally, I could care less about this, but it seems like big news in the industry right now. I'll still be getting my PS4, and using as my next gen console of choice throughout next gen, so this doesn't phase me. If I really want Steam games, I'll continue using it on my PC.

What do you guys think?

I may be the only one but I don't see this being as big as Xbox or PlayStation

If it's going to be almost as expensive as a high end PC, then why not just buy a high end PC?

How much is it going to be? or no one knows?

Just wait for a Steambox sale.

Wouldn't surprise me, They want it to be able to play all the high end PC games. It'll be probably more than twice the price of the Xbone.

Probably the same reason you'd buy a console aside from exclusives, better performance per dollar ratio. Plus, this thing IS a PC, Gabe has already gone on record of saying if you wanted to load it up with windows, you can, so when buying this, you ARE buying a high end PC that just so happens to be that much more efficient on price than other mass produced pre-builts.

My thoughts exactly. It'll most likely cater to Steam users, and I'm sure they're perfectly content with their current PC.

@DJEVOLVE I don't think anyone really knows, but I remember reading that there will be different models to satisfy the taste of different gamers, i.e. some may be up to a couple thousand dollars for those looking for the highest quality, while others may be only a few hundred for those that want a simple home console with decent hardware and streaming. Who knows?

Also on topic, the PS4 itself is fairly weak, let alone the One and Wii U, so I'd be kind of surprised if the Steambox isn't considerably stronger.

2.2 tflops GPU minimum, possibly anywhere up to 3.4 tflops.

We'll see about that.

This.

I don't see something like that selling well. Hardcore PC gamers will stick to PC.
