Forums - Gaming Discussion - Darkstalkers Were Just Resurrected, But They Are Resting In The Grave For Now

What do you think of this horrible news D:?

R.I.P. Darkstalkers 7 53.85%

They should of made Darks... 6 46.15%

Total:13

Just like Street Fighter V. Before we see either a new Darkstalkers or Streetfighter game we'll get Street Fighter x Tekken EX with 1 or 2 Darkstalkers guest characters XD

Around the Network

Not surprising.. Its fanbase is very small even in the fighting game community.. a niche game

I'd be grateful if Tekken and Street Fighter remain alive. Let alone a far less popular Darkstalkers. The fighting genre is dying :(

Again? lol

It was dying at the end of last gen too. lol

This gen was pretty good - we got to see a new SF, several new Tekkens and Soul Caliburs, and HD remakes of older games.

Hopefully next gen will be better or as good!

Too bad about Darkstalkers though /sadface - I wanted to play as a 3Desque Morrigan+Lilith T_T.  (Even though I could play as Morrigan in UMvsC3).

Nice new avatar :P

@topic: Did any fighting game this gen besides Super Smash Bros. Brawl actually manage to break 1Mil sales? I generally don't keep an eye on the sale of most fighting games, but IIRC only (Super) Street Fighter IV sold ~1Mil copies. Which is pretty bad compared to previous entries...

Capcom's shakier financial position likely has much to do with it. Either that or the disappointing results from SFxT causing them to draw back on fighting games altogether.

Trouble is, if they stop doing fighting games, what exactly do they have left?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I don't even know what a Darkstalker is.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

?? SF4 sold around 4 million.. Mortal Kombat did 4.. Mortal Kombat vs DC did 3.5. Like Tekken 6. Even injustice hit a million

Like I said - I usually don't keep an eye on the sales of these games.

I agree, had they done better last year with SFxT, RE6, DmC and other games, we'd probably hearing them take a bigger chance but for now, Capcom probably thinks the fighting game craze is drying up and pulling up stakes like they did with the Mega Man retro games when they warranted a brief revival. The head of the Street Fighter development team, said to one outlet, Ultra SF4 with its reusing of characters and stages from SFxT is basically all they can afford right now.

The Capcom higher ups are probably wanting their internal teams to focus on game the Western mainstream audience are likely to purchase.
