SALES & DEALS

The Steam Autumn Sale has begun
https://www.pcgamer.com/steam-fall-sale-2018/
November is here, the leaves are falling, and the prices are too: The 2018 Steam Autumn Sale is now live.
The Autumn Sale also sees the return of the Steam Awards, the now-annual ritual in which users nominate games for recognition across a number of ill-described, vaguely-defined, and occasionally outright-bizarre categories—last year's awards gave us "Mom's Spaghetti" and "Whoooaaaaaaa, Dude! 2.0," for instance.
>> Go and buy new games that you'll never play... or don't. It's your money and you can do whatever you want with it. By the way, any suggestions on what games to nominate for the awards? I'm out of ideas.

Half-Life 2 Classic Ravenholm demo demake for the first Half-Life is available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/half-life-2-classic-ravenholm-demo-demake-for-the-first-half-life-is-available-for-download/
In June, we shared some screenshots from the Half Life 2 demake for the first Half-Life, Half-Life 2 Classic. Created by Team Classic, this demake mod aims to recreate the entirety of Half-Life 2 in GoldSource Engine. And yesterday, the team has released a demo that you can download.
The team has been recreating demake models for all monsters and characters from scratch and the demo features new texture for normal zombies, making them wear citizen clothes instead of scientist ones, new sounds for weapons, footsteps, and more, new models/textures for weapons in the low-poly style of Half-Life 1, new “advanced” options to toggle weapon sway and change weapon fov (this will probably be used for more stuff later on), and allows zombies to be cut in half with sharp objects.
As its title suggests, this demo features the entire Ravenholm chapter from Half-Life 2, fully playable in Goldsrc as a Half-Life 1 mod, and those interested can download it from here.

New Dragon Ball Unreal demo released for Patreon backers
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/new-dragon-ball-unreal-demo-released-for-patreon-backers/
Back in June, we informed you about a new demo of the fan-made Dragon Ball game in Unreal Engine 4, Dragon Ball Unreal, that would be coming out shortly. Well, today we’ve got some good and some bad news for you DBZ fans. The good news is that a new demo has been released. The bad news is that the demo is currently behind a Patreon-wall.
This new demo is currently available to all Patreon backers and has not been released to the public yet. Moreover, we don’t know when – and if – Emudshit will release this latest demo of Dragon Ball Unreal to the public. As such, we won’t be covering this project anymore until the new demos become available to everyone.

Modder recreates Fallout 76's photomode in Fallout 4
https://www.pcgamer.com/modder-recreates-fallout-76s-photomode-in-fallout-4/
When I want to take nice screenshots in Fallout 4 I use console cheats: tfc to enable the freecam and tm to hide the UI. But modder extraordinaire registrator2000 is working on a far more elegant solution, a lovely photo mode for Fallout 4 based on the one from Fallout 76.
The mod isn't available for download yet, but it even the little bit we can currently see looks fantastic.

DICE details upcoming real-time ray tracing RTX optimizations coming to Battlefield 5
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/dice-details-upcoming-real-time-ray-tracing-rtx-optimizations-coming-to-battlefield-5/
In an interview with Eurogamer, EA DICE’s rendering engineer Yasin Uludag has detailed the optimizations that are coming to Battlefield 5’s real-time ray tracing RTX effects. According to Yasin, performance of the RTX effects will noticeably improve in the future as both NVIDIA and DICE are working on various performance improvements.

NieR Automata has not received a single patch on the PC but a GOTY Edition is coming out
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/nier-automata-has-not-received-a-single-patch-on-the-pc-but-a-goty-edition-is-coming-out/
While NieR: Automata sold quite well on the PC, it’s a game that could benefit from some patches. Surprisingly enough, Square Enix dropped the ball on this one and the game still suffers from mediocre PC controls (unless of course you’re playing with a gamepad but that’s not an excuse).
But anyway, according to ESRB there is a Game of the Year Edition, called NieR: Automata Game of the YoRHa Edition, coming out soon. My guess is that this Edition will simply include the DLCs that have been released and nothing more. So no, don’t expect any PC improvements or tweaks.

https://www.dsogaming.com/news/jurassic-world-evolution-patch-1-05-improves-screen-space-reflections-improves-dinosaurs-and-more/

According to the release notes, patch 1.05 features screen space reflections improvements, cleans up template missions (contracts) from the game database when starting/loading a career, brings various stability fixes and balances various music types lengths.

Access to that bonus equipment comes at a cost, however, as New Game+ mode will also serve up significantly increased difficulty.

Rumor: Diablo 4 takes after Diablo 2, but a cancelled version looked like Dark Souls
https://www.pcgamer.com/rumor-diablo-4-takes-after-diablo-2-but-a-cancelled-version-looked-like-dark-souls/
An in-depth Kotaku report on the state of things at Blizzard, and in particular the next Diablo game, has revealed a few very interesting, if unconfirmed, surprises, including that the studio had been working on a version of Diablo 4 that was similar in many ways to Dark Souls. Codenamed Hades, the game was being developed as a hardcore dungeon crawler with an over-the-shoulder view instead of Diablo's traditional isometric perspective.
>> The same Kotaku article also mentions a Pokémon Go-style game based on Warcraft.

The guy who redirected playdiablo4.com to Path of Exile wants people to stop bashing Blizzard
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-guy-who-redirected-playdiablo4com-to-path-of-exile-wants-people-to-stop-bashing-blizzard/
When Blizzard first announced that Diablo 3 would be coming to the Nintendo Switch, redditor Zein had a really funny idea. He went on GoDaddy and bought the URL "playdiablo4.com" and then made it redirect to Path of Exile's website—Diablo 3's biggest competitor. After Blizzard outraged fans earlier this November with the announcement of Diablo Immortal, Zein's little joke went viral. But now he's asking people to stop bashing the developer.

Battlefield 5 machine gunners are learning how to duck in the next patch
https://www.pcgamer.com/battlefield-5-machine-gunners-are-learning-how-to-duck-in-the-next-patch/
The top gunners on Battlefield 5 tanks have a hell of a gun under their control, and play an important role as they deal with any infantry that gets close to harass the tank with explosives. They also die a lot, because they're sitting on top of a large tank with a big gun, making a lot of noise and not doing what they should arguably be doing most of the time: ducking.

A pair of new islands will hit World of Warcraft’s island expeditions next month, along with the meaty Tides of Vengeance update. Unfortunately, Havenswood and Jorundall both look like pretty gloomy places, so don't expect any beach fun. Joining them are changes to what you’ll be doing in these expeditions, which fuel the war between the Alliance and Horde.

It's worth noting that this is a "DRM-free" game from the Humble Store, which means that it's not a Steam game, you have to download and install it by yourself.

Have they really improved that much?

I was a big fan of the series until AC 3. That game killed (get it?) the franchise for me, and even after finding Black Flag enjoyable, I simply lost interest in the franchise.

It's basically The Witcher III with more stealth and less magic. If it sounds appealing for you, go for it.

And to me, Ubisoft should just get rid entirely of the Abstergo modern day plot, right now is no more than a distant background for the whole thing.

Depends what you like. I left after AC2, it was already big departure for me from AC1, played about half of Black Flag, didn't like it much, especially arcadey naval combats, got Origins due to Egypt setting, spectacularly gorgeous game that gets painfully repetitive very quickly (I honestly pitty those artits at Ubi), got Odyssey again due to setting (both Egypt and Greece are my go to places for summer vacations) - I'd say it's fairly improved Origins, I find it much more interesting, but the same old very basic loop, find-kill, find-kill gets old very quickly as well, with not much else to do, and honestly, after some 17-18 hours in I think i'm about to quit.

Oh, and it's nothing really like Withcer 3 - I can go in length about it, but honestly, I neither have time, nor desire, so, to cut it short, as much as it can be argued that TW3 is just barely action-RPG, Odyssey is firmly in this new genre of pseudo action-RPGs that are action-adventures with some light RPG mechanisms slapped on.

For me it's 6.5/10 , but, admittedly, i am quite harsh when it comes to scores.

Black Ops 4's lack of campaign didn't hurt sales 'in the slightest'
https://www.pcgamer.com/black-ops-4s-lack-of-campaign-didnt-hurt-sales-in-the-slightest/
Treyarch and Activision took a risk by omitting a traditional single-player campaign from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, although Andy K. predicted a few months before its release that most fans of the series wouldn't care. It looks like he was spot on: Launch-day sales on the PC set "a new franchise high" and more than doubled those of last year's Call of Duty: WWII, and as reported by VentureBeat, the NPD Group has declared it the best-selling game of the month, the year, and one of its best-sellers of all time.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launch month dollar sales represent the eighth highest in videogame history since The NPD Group began tracking in 1995," the NPD said. "Black Ops 4 instantly becomes the best-selling game of the year, and the second best-selling game across the past twelve month period, trailing only Call of Duty: WWII."

This Dying Light mod brings back cut features, improves/tweaks gameplay mechanics
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/this-dying-light-mod-brings-back-cut-features-improves-tweaks-gameplay-mechanics/
Dying Light is a game that I wholeheartedly enjoyed, even though I didn’t really like Dead Island. The game’s parkour and movement system made it play like a dream and modder ‘Ethical Lune’ has released a new mod for it that adds some cut features back in, fixes some problems and improves a couple of mechanics.
According to the modder, the Harran Uncut and Extended Mod makes fall heights more realistic (they are more akin to Mirror’s Edge rather than Spiderman) and players will need to perform a parkour roll for any big jump to avoid getting hurt.
Furthermore, Parkour rolling/Soft Landing skills are available for free from the start, Freerunning Expert will unlock a cut wallrunning feature, takedowns will use a slower unused choke-out animation instead of the rather silly neck snap animation, running will grant you a tiny amount of XP and boken weapons will deal 35% damage instead of 10% damage.

World War 3 adds Team Deathmatch, a new map, and a development roadmap

The subtly-named online shooter World War 3 "is a more hardcore Battlefield," we said in our recent preview, calling it a promising experience that suffers from some irritating technical issues. That's not terribly surprising, given that the game is a relatively recent arrival on the Early Access scene and only just went to version 0.2 in an update released today.

Unfortunately, it’s also left Brogadyn with little to do.

Now I would list the GOG and Steam deals of this weekend, but GOG is doing a Black Friday sale and Steam its Autumn Sale, so there's not much to say.
