Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are people still confusing Wii U with Wii?

Tagged games:

OK, trying this again. My first attempt at this thread never got off the ground.

So, I was in Walmart on Thursday night, and I saw a sign in the video game section that was aimed at fans asking about New Super Mario Bros. U.

I asked one of the nearby clerks about the sign, and he said that people were confusing New Super Mario Bros. U for a Wii title. Obviously this happened enough times to warrant a posted sign. Although, the sign doesn't help matters by referring to New Super Mario Bros. U as New Super Mario Bros. 2.

I had hoped a lot of the confusion about Wii vs. Wii U has dissipated, but maybe that's not the case.

Have any of you seen examples like this one, and do you think there is still a good amount of confusion over what Wii U really is?

There is still a LOT of confusion between 3DS and DS (to the extent that you get asked "do you have a 3DS?" when buying a 3DS game, because of so many people returning due to mistakes) - but I'm not sure about Wii vs WiiU

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
Who cares if the casuals can't tell the difference? Gamers will
As long as I dont get gifted a Wii by people who dont know / care, I am fine with that.
Lol can you imagine asking for a wii u for christmas, then opening it all excited then it turns out to be a wii, I seriously feel for the kid that happens to
It's all up to the marketing campaign, which hasn't started yet.
That could be a good prank for someone who is buying a wii u for a relative this christmas, take the wii u and put it in a wii box, watch them all exited opening it, then how disappointed, gutted and let down they feel when they think you've bought them the original wii, then the joy they will have finally finding it is a wii u haha
The problem with that sign is putting a 3DS game on Wii, and then confusing it for Wii U.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
yeah, i was at comic con and i over heard two people saying they thought the controller was for Wii
So they avert confusion by adding more confusion.  Brilliant.
Unfortunately Nintendo's naming conventions of late have caused confusion for the sake of brand awareness.   But it will eventually work itself out.    The DS dealt with confusion of the DS and DS Lite models at first but managed to get over that hurdle rather quickly.
