EXCLUSIVE: Final Fantasy XV to be the biggest FF ever made. Will have been in development for 8 years when it releases worldwide in Q4 2015
It looks like the FF series is about to receive a renaissance that will once again make it one of the most prized franchises in gaming. We have provided details about FFXV in the past, but we have come to understand the game will no longer be revealed this year as part of the FF 25th Anniversary. This new info comes from our trustworthy source who tells us, "The announcement of the game has been delayed so as to not take interest away from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Further information about Final Fantasy Versus XIII has also been delayed for this reason."
Our source provided further details about FFXV but stated that this would be the last bit of info they would provide. FF fans will have to wait until the game is revealed to get more info on the game (or determine if any of this is true). Anyway, we've conveniently listed everything we've been told about the game below:
- The project began in December 2007.
- It entered full production in January 2010, a month after FFXIII was released in Japan.
- The development team is currently at just over 200 people. However, it is being planned to hit 800 (400 internal staff and 400 contracted) from the end of 2012 until it goes Gold.
- The game design and battle system will be a major evolution of FFXII.
- Every enemy has different body parts that can be targeted, similar to Vagrant Story. As a result, each battle has become a puzzle of attacking specific body parts in a certain order.
- The Gambit system has returned and been dubbed "Gambits 2.0"
- The game will have a world size on par with Skyrim. It will also have a minimum of five major cities that are each the same size as the cities in Assassin's Creed. These cities are filled with crowds of NPCs and you can enter almost every building in them.
- The art direction is said to be Baroque. There will be ridiculously detailed and ornate art almost everywhere. The game will have the largest art team that has ever worked on a Square Enix game when it reaches 800 people. There will 500 of these 800 people working on art assets for the architecture and interior designs alone.
- We've been told that the art has already reached a stage where it's like the interior of the Palace of Versailles. (Imagine this in real-time)
- Yoichi Wada (president of Square Enix) wants this game to show that Japan can still make the best RPGs in the world.
- The game was originally going to be announced at E3 2011 and then released worldwide on the exact same date as the FF 25th Anniversary (December 18, 2012). However, the failure of FFXIV made Square Enix management delay the game until they could release an improved version of FFXIV.
