Forums - Sony - Jack Tretton defends Playstation Vita, says sales are "acceptable"

Jack Tretton on the Playstation Vita, he also talks about dedicated consoles and other things in the article

"In this industry, you can't get too high or too low, because it moves very quickly," says Tretton. "I think there's an acceptable number - and [the number] we've sold: That's acceptable. If it was triple that, I'd be happier. If it was one-third, I'd be disappointed."

"Anything with great rewards is going to come with great challenges," he says. "We felt if the tech was there, and the game support was there, then the audience would be there. … I feel much better about it now than I did four months ago."

What's he gonna say? "OMGZ WE'S DOOMED!!!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!"

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

So they expected support to be there like bees to honey?

Considering the system as first glance is awesome and at the time it was announced, the price was reasonable...why not?

Not kidding, I still have faith in Vita - especially because it can have a different market than 3DS (one that may or may not be profitable), but still very different

But this if Vita rises from all that doom & gloom people can be proud and say it's going to be the most incredible comeback in history

That said, 3DS sales are nothing to write home about too.

Vita will be alright. I don't think it will match the sales of the PSP but only time will tell. It isn't off to a good start. I suppose all the doom did rub off on the Vita. Last year it was all about the 3DS being doomed. This year it is about the Vita. Next year it will probably be the Wii U. They just love making doom statements. I view it almost like the end of the world rhetoric. Mention the word doom and you will get tons of hits. That is what the gaming "journalist" depend on in bringing hits to their sites. Talk about how everything is all hunky dory and very few people would give a shit about it. Talk shit about someone's system calling it doomed and then you bring in the haters and the defenders.

LOL.  Exactly.  I'm not even sure the sales numbers are all that horrible, either.  I mean, at the very least, Sony already has 2 million hardcore ardent Vita owners that represent males age 18-34 who are prone to spending lots of money on games and accessories.  It's also the same demographic that were the first to adopt high-end smartphones.  So, I agree with Jack, I don't see any cause for concern.  The more games they release, the more sales will pick up, and it will inevitably become a very profitable machine for them.  No doubt in my mind at all.

North American sales could be better, certainly, but 3DS sales over here are still outpacing the original DS.  I think reputation (simliar to GameCube) fares a lot worse than literal sales.

Acceptable? Was Vita doing badly within their range of expectations?
