Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anyone else felt let down by MW3?

Tagged games:

I am a big FPS fan, I buy quite alot of FPS games every year among other genres such as RPG, strategy, adventure etc. Amongst my yearly purchases is also COD, I buy one every year, that is if there is a deal on - why you may ask? I enjoyed the single player of MW1 and MW2. Also the deals in supermarket on launch allow me to trade the game in for profit if I didn't like it.

Now, I thoroughly enjoyed black ops, although the hit detection was a bit off, in most cases it was tolerable and the game was fairly balanced when compared with the shit-fest that was MW2. However this year, instead of purchasing MW3 I decided to go for a rental, I mainly wanted to play the single player and check out the multiplayer before making a purchase later down the road (And I've heard of the incredible large amount of shipments and flooding of the supermarkets - so the price may actually drop faster than the previous COD games).

Because it was rental I decided to do the campaign run through on Regular (Which is around medium for average games). The campaign took me 4 hours(Serious wtf >_>), but then agan on veteran MW2 took me 7 hours - which I just realized after remembering my statistics. But other than that, single player was filled with dramatic moments that would probably make all the frat and "bros" guys go "Waaah, that was sad." ie, moments that would only make guys who value the other guys friendship above everything else - bros emotionally responsive to the game. To me, it was slightly disappointing, the amount of controversy they've tried to attract with various different scenes was quite annoying.

Anyhow, anyone else was disappointed with the step back in regards to the multiplayer when compared with the black ops? Although I know they are developed by two different developers, still, it's a franchise, there must be some coordination, the assault rifles now seem to be nerfed and machine guns are top of the range again, the atrocious close quarters map design with tight corners and plenty of dark spots, apparently they were meant to make the game "less-camper friendly", I beg to differ, they achieved the impossible and made it even more camper friendly. Killstreaks are yet again overpowered with the air support being dominant and with the killstreaks getting you more killstreaks, you can see where that leads. At least the nuke is not as easy to get anymore I suppose, the perks are pretty much the same fucking thing as MW2, except now they've split Cold Blooded into two different perks and.. that's pretty much it, the rest of the perks and death streaks are effectively identical to their MW2 counterparts but just with different names - and that's the ones they bothered to change, the rest are just direct copies.

Sorry to rant, but for those who tl;dr:

Single player is just as short as ever with the story looking more rushed than anything and with plenty of those moments which the college guys who draw dicks on their comrades who were unfortunate to fall asleep and play soggy biscuit together would appreciate immensely.

Multiplayer is a direct and shameless copy of MW2, with the SMG's having direct advantage over anything. Guns and perks are shamelessly copied from the previous iterations, the map design is just beyond awful and camper friendly. Killstreaks are just as overpowered as ever, and some weapons are ridiculously OP - dual FMG's anyone?

I wasn't hyped for it, really. But even then I was let down.

I really didn't like the campaign that EA did in regards to BF3 being the COD killer, nor did I like the BF fanboys trolling every single COD related video, but in all honesty, I found playing BF3 to be much more enjoyable, and the SP campaign was longer too - and that was on medium difficulty too.

Are you enjoying MW3? :3

is much better than MW2 but my favorite is still COD 2, i didn't find the game bad but it's becoming repetitive.

I am. It is more balanced then MW2 and I like the feel of it more then Black Ops.

The main campaign is short, played it on Hardened (the one above Medium) and it only took just less then 5 hours. Like you say, it's all flash bit moments and the calm moments, turn into that in the end anyway. At least I got to play as a Russian, story seemed to lack in my view, plot holes I didn't like (or understand).

Multiplayer, I'm finding fine. Although there are some serious issues with certain parts, the maps people claim are small, I don't think they are if you compare them to other CoD maps (okay they aren't great like Derailed), what they don't have is long line of sights, there are things in the way everywhere. Random boxes or cars, even structures get in the way. Not as many maps have a higher ground as such to shoot from either like MW2 had.

Also, auto aim is still turned on, why is this on at all? My gun randomly moves when aiming down sights or my entire character moves when running past someone quickly, I don't want to do that. There should be no help to anyone is these games.

This all said, I think spec ops is great, survival great too. And overall multiplayer is enjoyable, perks are fair and the kill streak system is great. Finally me, a person who shoots down UAVs and helicopters all the time (sometimes I see to be the only one) gets benefits from this, in previous games I didn't. Just a shame there are so many buildings and obstacles on the maps that it's bloody hard to see these things.

Hmm, pie.

I'm a big CoD fan aswell and sold the game the first week. SP is worse then the last two and even shorter. The MP maps are the worst in the entire series, not a single good one. They also changed the way the charcter or gun moves, something is off. Everything in the game just feels different. The guns kill even faster then MW2 with stopping power, unless you have the lag advantage there is no way to win close battles.

All the guns sound the exact same, they dumped all the old gun sounds and just used the same sound for each one, just made some slightly louder then others. The spawning is broken, players spawning in the same room where i killed them except now they are looking at my back. If you kill a player him and all his buddies will spawn on top of you no matter where you are.

Regarding air support due to the close quarters of the map you can't even spawn and look up to shoot down anything without being shot in the back. Sam turets were also useless due to the close maps and constant spawn flipping.

Most of my games were played in Domination where spawns should be predictable, and based around the flags teams own. Excpet it was more TDM spawns and anything goes. And due to all the air support any class without the stinger and the ghost perks was useless pretty much.

I bought it with low expectations and it didn't even meet those. I really just wanted to finish the story arc.

I love it. There are a few issues with the multiplayer but those will eventually be addressed. This game is far better than Black Ops and MW2 and it feels like a true successor to CoD4. I don't care about the single player so I won't comment there.

Personal opinions are funny, aren't they?

True. I've played all of the major CoDs (starting from CoD4) extensively and although MW3 isn't as good as CoD4, it is the closest from the rest. Black Ops was extremely slow-paced and it didn't feel like a true CoD game, while MW2 was a giant cluster of a million things happening at once. MW3 feels like a hybrid between the two, thus it naturally feels better to me.
