Animal trafficking is a huge business. Most probably they were gonna sell them in the black market, or even in some legal Pet shops. Lots of pet shops sell animals that were trafficked.
Europe, Canada and USA have a gigantic market of exotic masctots.

It's a shame

Small animals like frogs, spiders or things like that are the most trafficked of all.
A person goes to a poor town and offer the inhabitant $ 0.10 USD for each animal they give him. Then he sells each of them at 50 dollars (at least).
Plus, most of the animal just die in the trip.

I did not find any crazy prices though in pet shops. 150 was the most for a tarantula! Is that worth the smuggling?


Of course.

If they smuggle 100 tarantulas, 150*100 = 15,000 USD, they spend less than 15 dollars getting them. In this case they were 261 spiders.

Southern Mexico suffers a lot of that

I'm sure if I took a huge dump in a box I'd get it sold on ebay. Bottom line, there's a market for everything.

You should have been here last night when I used the site up! There was no one posting, I had lets say 8 of the last 10 post in the forum, article post, game cheat post, gamrtv post, database work. Although I think this was because last night the site was really slow.

 

I would love to have a daddy long leg farm! Have any of those?

Yup, daddy long legs, black widows, and at least 5 more species of small spiders in my garden. These are small and not so bothersome.

Unfortunately we get 'Rain Spiders' (gggaaahhhahhah - I shiver just thinking of them) and 'hunting spiders' here too. These 2 guys are BIG, fast and scary as hell. I don't know the actual names since that's what they are called here.

I could probably fill an empty PS3 box with spiders just from around the house - especially now in spring time :-/

If that movie had done decent numbers, this would probably be the sequel, or alligators. Wait! Bees!!! Remember that 1970's William Shatner movie Kingdom of the spiders? That could make a great remake! In 3D.
