Animal trafficking is a huge business. Most probably they were gonna sell them in the black market, or even in some legal Pet shops. Lots of pet shops sell animals that were trafficked.
Europe, Canada and USA have a gigantic market of exotic masctots.

I did not find any crazy prices though in pet shops. 150 was the most for a tarantula! Is that worth the smuggling?


Of course.

If they smuggle 100 tarantulas, 150*100 = 15,000 USD, they spend less than 15 dollars getting them. In this case they were 261 spiders.
