A Video Game You Can Drive For Real

Team uses augmented reality to create vehicle out of a video game cabinet It's always cool when scientists and people smarter than me take video game technology and introduce it to the real world. That's what Garnet Hertz and the folks at Concept Labs have done, taking a car-shaped arcade game cabinet (Sega's OutRun game from the '80s) and adding it to a real-world electric vehicle.

To see a video of it in action follow the link ;

He keeps looking past the screen to see where he is going! At least at max 20 km/h you can't do too much damage.

When we were making a car navigation system we were always joking of adding a game element to it. High score tables, max speed tracking, race your buddy through the server. Too bad that never happened.

Now they're selling anonymous user speed data to the police so they know where the best places are for speed traps :/ And they're selling the location of speed traps to the users to warn them to slow down in time. Now that's baking a cake and eating it too.

yes it is......
