Forums - Sales Discussion - Black Ops obliterates UK sales record

Call of Duty: Black Ops sold a whopping 1.4 million copies in its first day on sale in the UK.

That's the biggest UK day one performance ever – it sold 14 per cent more units than Modern Warfare 2 did during its first day on sale.

Let's put that day one sales figure into perspective. Namco Bandai's Enslaved has sold 800,000 units worldwide. MTV Games' Rock Band 3 sold 7386 units for the week ending 30th October in the UK. Microsoft's Xbox 360 exclusive Fable III sold 129,000 units in the UK during its first week on sale.

Figures released by UKIE/GfK Chart-Track to MCVreveal revenues of £58 million.

Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 sold 1.23 million units on day one, generating £47.7 million.

Treyarch's Black Ops enjoyed the biggest entertainment launch of all time across the US and UK, according to Activision, selling 5.6 million units combined day one and generating $360 million.

Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption, one of 2010's biggest hits, sold in 6.9 million units worldwide during its first three months on sale.

First week sales could be as high as 2 million.

I will admit I never thought I'd see a Treyarch game be the biggest ever.  What a weird world we live in.  Just shows the power of brand reinforecement to purchase.

At least it's good.  So far SP is better than CoD4 or MW2 (in terms of actually having a story of some coherence) although overall it feels even shorter, tight maps funnelled down to a rapid series of firefights and scripted events.  Not my favourite SP approach by a long shot but better than the same gamplay approach coupled with gibberish story as in MW2.

MP is basically MW2 MP balanced a bit better (or so it feels to me) with a few tweaks.

Zombies remains a guilt pleasure.

Truth be told, I'm having the most fun playing arcade Zombies coop.  How weird is that?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

i know its big

but 14% is not called obiliterating something

About this - the OP says that Enslaved has sold 800k copies, but vgchartz has got it at 200k, do we know which is true. can a game be this badly undertracked??

800k is an official figure from Namco Bandai.

I see, thats actully pretty good news man, i felt really sorry for ninja theory who clearly put their heart into the game yet only had a few thousand units sold each week according to vgchartz. good to know that its actully not the case, and it could probabily do 1mil.

....unless thats a shipped number not units sold. it seems to be more complex than we think!!

Deserves it. The game is so much better than it's predecessors.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
