Forums - Microsoft - Mass Effect - 1 million sold

http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/mass-effect-amasses-one-million-copies-sold/18805/?biz=1

So, can anyone say undertracked here on VGChartz? Or did they ship half a million extra copies?

They're also saying they've sold 5 million copies of halo in the last 3 weeks? Have they really?

No, they're saying they've sold over 5 million copies in total - the three weeks only apply to ME.

did you not see my thread >_>

Pasting from the other thread:

"We've... seen a strong response to both Halo 3 sales with more than 5 million, and Mass Effect which has sold more than a million copies in less than three weeks," noted Bell, highlighting consumers' reaction to Microsoft's holiday push.

MS
Halo 3: > 5,000,000
Mass Effect: > 1,000,000

vgchartz
Halo 3: 5,819,045
Mass Effect: 557,356

Why would they be giving "sold to consumers" numbers for Halo 3, but "sold to retailers" numbers for Mass Effect?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

^ Because it looks better? NPD will show soon how much ME sold.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I would think that the 1m sold mark is probably sold to consumers. Mass Effect has been tracking very, very well on the MGC charts. Over 176,000 unique users have played Mass Effect thus far, out of 1.6m users.

So 1m is definately do-able. Last year, Microsoft did the same thing for Gears of War, stating when it had sold 1m, 2m, and 3m, copies. We found out their #s were totally accurate for actual sold copies.

So wouldn't it look better to give sold to retailers numbers for Halo 3 also?  Why consumers for one and retailers for the other?

And we won't necessarily see with NPD, because that will only cover the US and two weeks, the > 1m figure is three weeks and worldwide.

Yeah, I just doubt Microsoft would be deceptive about software sales, at least in terms of US or worldwide. That would be like Nintendo being deceptive over Wii or DS hardware sales. You don't need to do to much spinning when things are going well.

Exactly.

And when FM2 was out and about (and really hyped), MS waited a full 2 months before saying "it'll hit the 1m mark in a week or two".

One can just only pray and assume that VGC just vastly undertracked ME in the US.

My 2m+ by December prediction still lives! :)
