The biggest "trend shifting" danger this year, was that MS or Sony would introduce a "WiiMote" like controller, and steal Nintendo's market. This has not happened, and because of "WiiMotion +" becomes much, much harder to do - or sell to the public.
The "danger" for Nintendo has passed, and this generation is now set in stone IMO.
The interest from here is: will the casualisation of the 360 boost its long-term sales, to the point where it can outsell the PS3 over this generation. I don't see any chance of it threatening the Wii, but I don't see that as MS's intention at the moment - Sony comes first.
