Realistically, is there any announcement Sony could make to make up for FF?

Umm, you know Nintendo is a way bigger company, in terms of money, than Sony. Even when you include all of Sony.  Nintendo is the second largest company in Japan.

 

 i don't think so...Sony brings in a lot of revenue besides Playstation
