Soriku - but again, both series were on a Nintendo system (with FF, exclusively) and wound up going PS exclusive for years.

Yes yes yes, I'm not trying to argue an EXACT comparison. We all know that N64 or Nintendo fans got a Final Fantasy until Crystal Chronicles for GC, and PS3 fans are still getting it, but it's the same amount of heartache - you buy a system for 1 game, only to find out that the 1 uber-game is going to the evil rival console. I think even if FFXIII went to the Wii as well (as opposed to the X360), the drama wouldn't of been so bad.

And again, it's surreal being on the other side of this...10 years later. I actually am going to buy a Final Fantasy game when it launches! Ha! And this time it won't be $80 like FFIII was when I bought it.

And like you said Night, Sony fans shouldn't be as distraught as they are...As an SNES owner, I was treated to:

FF II, III (US), MQ
Lufia 1/2
Super Mario RPG
Robotek
Breath of Fire 1/2
Ogre Battle
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
+ 10 other great JRPGs.

But thanks to Sony, as an N64 owner, I got:
Quest 64
Ogre Battle 64

Similarly, as a regular PS2 owner, most were treated to a laundry list of JRPGs, while the succuessor (PS3) is getting a slimming list of JRPGs that are either not coming to the PS3 at all, or are multi-plat. So the degredation of the JRPG game base on the PS3 is kind of similar. And I think it's the closest thing we're going to get. I don't even remember DQ9 > DS announcement being THIS overwhelming with reaction.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
