January 12th, 1996.

It's been 10 years, 6 months, and 2 days since Square's allegience changed the face for Nintendo and Sony fans alike.

July 14th, 2008.

Very similar set of circumstances. A haughty company specced their system out wrong, and decided not to pursue a few key software, and hardware things and ended up costing them the entire generation rather quickly.

I was unfortunately on the recieving end of that decision..I purchased a Nintendo 64 souly based on Nintendo Power screens of FFIV on N64.

..And we know how that turned out.

Star Ocean. Tales. Very similar situation. I guess history is cyclical. Heck, this might even hurt Sony to weaken their stance for the market to continue to go to Nintendo even further, handing the banner back after 12 years in enemy territory.

But atleast this time, I can say I made the right decision in waiting 14hrs outside in 40* weather for my X360. I had a hunch that something of this magnitude was eventually going to surface. I never realized how right I would be..Seems to be about the best coup-de-gras a RPG fan and 360 owner could get. Dragon Age is coming to consoles too.

:)

Fortunately for PS3 fans, the damage is mitigated: Atleast you GET XIII. It took me 4 years of painful waiting to get VII, VIII and FFT for a $30 PS1 well after it's prime. So don't feel too bad. Just remember, you can't always put your faith into 1 company forever. Eventually even Nintendo, 2 or 3 Wii's from now will get toppled - Sony, MS, Apple, or some splorgenborg console will come along and scoop up FFXX or something, who knows. But it'll happen...Maybe 10 years and 6 months from now.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
