Realistically, is there any announcement Sony could make to make up for FF?

This was the biggest surprise of the year, but do you think Sony didn't know what would be annouced today?

I don't own a PS3 or 360, but I can't believe Sony would allow losing FFXIII exclusiveness without a big counter-announcement tomorrow.
