I think it was fine... And then SE made it a huge success...
The casual focus will help a lot.
Gears 2 look amazing, the dashboard / avatars, extra DLC all around for 360, and the Netflix announcement... Nothing too stunning but they did what they needed to do...
Although I am not too huge of an FF fan, this just changed what platform I will buy it on. I was going to get it for my PS3s, but now I will buy the 360 version because trophies aren't as good as achievements.
