I think the problem comes from the fact that M$ and Sony have introduced this rediculous idea of multiple versions. In my opinion, I agree with the idea that this isn't actually a price cut, but thats just me.
Whats the point of the 80 GB version? Do you think 20GB is worth 100$? Why didn't they just make the 80 GB version 500$ and get rid of the 60 GB entirely? That would be a price cut in my opinion.
Instead, what I see is this: The 60 GB is old news. Sell it at 500$ to clear out stock since we're going to mostly produce the new 80GB version with no EE etc...which we're going to charge the same 600$ for. So if you buy the expensive version, you get 20 GB extra storage...but at the same time you lose out on some of the hardware bits right?
Not to be pessimistic, but who wants to bet that the 80 GB version costs less to produce than the 60 GB version and that they'll stop making the 60 GB version entirely and just sell it until stocks are depleted?
