They did.  But it worked for a few months.  For them anyway, this sort of thing screws gamers sometimes.  This time its a bit different because Microsoft specifically stated its a clearance sale.

I don't think Sony said they were having a clearance sale (we all knew it, but you're average consumer got screwed).

But Microsoft have specifically said "we are bringing a new model out, but if 20GB is all you need you can have it cheap."

I remember someone clearly stating a while ago that "the only reason Ps3 is selling is because people are scared they wont get a BC because they are being discountinued"

It was a well known thing that Sony was introducing the 80 in place of the 60 gig.
