The Blu-Ray / HD DVD war was the beginning of the end for media distribution for the following reasons:
- The new formats were too expensive to buy
- The new formats are better, but not better enough to justify repurchasing vast collections people may have
- People should be uncomfortable with one large distributor of movies also controlling the format
- The stand alone players are way too expensive
- There isn't enough PC support yet
