I read several articles on that subject of the 7200 rpm disk drive, if it would be beneficial, all of them pretty much summed it up saying that it wouldn't do enough to overheat your console, but also it wouldn't be enough of a difference in speed to get excited about, I did further investigation and called a sony rep and was told that there would be no negative side effects of putting in a 7200 rpm drive, the ps3 would handle it fine and it still wouldn't void warranty, I ended up going with my western digital 5400 rpm 320gb drive.
