We didn't hear bad things about Lair or Haze until they were practically released either ...

People who are given the opportunity to preview games tend to be (amazingly) easy on these games because they will give developers the benefit of the doubt and assume they will fix the issues, and if they're overly harsh to any game no developer/publisher would want them to preview their upcomming game.

I've heard negative previews from those two titles.
I recall previewers saying that Lair had stale gameplay and will probably not live up to the hype while praising Heavenly Sword in the same article saying it had potential to be an AAA title(something to that extent).

I think I've heard more "meh"s than praises from Haze before it was released (And even after har har).
