It might have a big push... but it would need a HUGE push ala Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1. Basically, you can't go anywhere without seeing adds for it, advertising about how it's the biggest franchise in Japan (neglecting to mention pokemon as an RPG.)
Basically you have to do what they did with the Final Fantasy series. Convince people who have never played an RPG before that Dragon Quest is the best RPGs have to offer before they even play the game.
Which isn't going to happen in the west i don't think. DQ already nets them quite a bit of profit and Square always gets the console manufacturers to spend the big advertising bucks anyway. Like with FF7, where SE didn't even want to publish it outside japan... and Sony put behind it a Marketing budget in the 10's of millions. (10 years ago when that was even more.)
Nintendo isn't the kind of company to spend 10's of millions on someone elses game. Nintendo will likely try and make their own RPG and try to push it as the RPG the new expanded audience should play and make it the "Default RPG franchise."
Which probably won't work as well... but will make Nintendo more money.
They could always go with a console pokemon... but i'm guessing they are afraid a full fledged pokemon game on console would hurt their handheld pokemon franchise which has a lower development cost... people waiting for the console version.
