It's true there haven't been many great/good adventure games in the last few years, but there were still some that shined:
Sam & Max: Season One
Sam & Max: Season Two
Syberia II
Myst V: End of Ages
Myst IV: Revelations
Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon (really good, the series made the 2D->3D transition well. No mouse support though)
The Longest Journey (came out in 2000, but one of the best videogame stories ever. You must get it)
Dreamfall (sequel of TLJ, not as great)
Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy (really good adventure, but the story falls down in the late half of the game)
You can buy the Sam & Max games and TLJ+Dreamfall on Steam, btw.
There's also some decent recent adventures lieing somewhere, like Tunguska: Secret Files (interesting story, not-so-good writing), Jack Keane (Monkey Island-like), Culpa Innata, The Experiment, Penumbra, and Still Life.
The adventure genre did die down since the 90's, but because of the ease of development of Adventure games today and Digital Distribution (Sam & Max showed the way), we will be going through a period of silver age of Adventure Games. Some anticipated P&C Adventures coming:
A Vampyre Story - The most anticipated one. Screams of Old Lucas Arts quality!
Gray Matter - Written by the author of the Gabriel Knight games.
A new beginning - very interesting, and looks really good.
Still Life 2
Mata Hari
Sinking Island
Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People (it's episodical)
Nikopol: The Carnival of Immortals
Gobliiins 4
Alternativa
So Blonde (from the writer of Broken sword games)
Perry Rhodan/Immortals of Terra
The Path
The Whispered World
Ankh 3
Love (MMO Adventure game, and looks amazing)
Treasure Island
Secret Files 2
Nostradamus - The Last Prophecy
Kaptain Brawe
