He's just saying what all the tech bros want. MS. Nvidia.Google. META. Etc Every tech company wants to remove ownership of your devices. They want you on cloud and subscription services and with the shortage of ram they are causing, they may get their wish. Not to mention the more sub based services the more they can control, have your info to spy on you and you pay them for it. 

In such dystopian scenarios, I would just walk away from the internet completely. No internet, no control over me. Done and done.
