Over the course of time, patterns have emerged. And one of them is that when a platform holder dominates a generation, all is good. The games are good. The value for the gamer is usually good. Everything is straight roses. But then, when the following generation takes off, that same company tends to fall off. They get greedy, take things away that use to be free, the value plummets, the games tend to shrink in quality or quantity etc. Almost everything reverses. It hasn't happened all the time, of course. And sometimes the fall off has been less severe. But it always happens to some degree. So for me? I usually ended up enjoying the consoles that weren't mega popular while they were popular. Not always. For instance, NES was by far my favorite console of the third generation, and when it came to handhelds, it was always Nintendo, but other than that, my favorite console tended to be the underdog because... I don't know, really. Maybe because those consoles tend to fight harder for our dollar? It's a strange realization lol

Having said all that, though, I usually owned all major consoles each gen. I had my favorites, but had them all. So I wasn't really what you'd fall a fanboy or anything (though the internet always called me one lol). I was a console polygamist.
