Again, I am against IP. I think "stealing code" makes as much sense as stealing a theorem or the concept of "tree." Legally, of course one can distinguish it, but morality-wise it seems far more onerous to have "ownership" of ideas and all of the violent enforcement and inequality that that entails

I am not sure what AAA publishers can do about this other than not release executables by going full streaming, which is really just cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. What they earn by hampering pirates they lose many times over by having inaccessible distribution of their games.

Yeah, that's where we'll disagree - climbing houses in Assassin's Creed is a concept, which shouldn't be under copyright laws protection (like idea of the tree), but using someone's code that someone wrote (and its not open sourced) from decompile and using it exactly in your own game is theft from my POV.

In this case (AAA games) the people who write the code and produce the assets don't "own it." Capital investors do.

IP is mostly a legal convention for the convenience and perpetuation of the current economic system and not something indisputably morally good. I personally think it is okay or even good that people decompile game code or any code really when the alternative is that capitalists control and gatekeep the access thereof.

Again, legally it is a different matter, but most so-called moral justifications for IP rights are post-hoc justifications after the fact of its existence and not something upon which these laws were constructed from first principles. IP exists because it benefits the dominant political-economy. Everything else is to rationalize that.
