Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. Despite the silly amount of recycling, I'm enjoying it even more than the 1st. So much heart.

Just finished the Estelle solo fight close to the end of chapter 5 (winning it is optional but my OCD kicked in) on Nightmare after failing for over an hour, and it was immensely satisfying to work out and execute a strategy without overleveling or upgrading equipments. Epic, hilarious, and god am I obsessing over the soundtrack (Fight with Assailant) which kinda reminds of Will Power from Persona 5, exept it's better :D

Falcom fucking rules. Out of the four games I played so far, only Ys 8 was a disappointment to me.

Woah what was wrong with Ys 8?  Game was fantastic, granted it was my first Falcom game.  I've played 8, 9, and X, and would rank them 8, X, and 9.

Spammy braindead repetitive combat (Flash Guard/Move festival), too easy, very poor production values for the scope (great soundtracks though), cosmic bullshit ending that ruined an otherwise nice story and damaged the entire series to me (everything is apparently a figment of some goddess's imagination), annoying protagonist wankery.

It killed any interest I had playing the other 3D Ys games coz it's supposed to be the best one by a wide margin, and they all seem to share some of the same fundamental flaws that I hated. For the love of Aidios, I'll never understand how anyone can play this mediocrity (the combat) and come out saying "it's the best action RPG of all time" which is a surprisingly common sentiment in some forums. It's all flash and little substance. Ys Origin had tight controls, engaging combat that rewarded skill and spacial awareness, amazing boss fights and a unique identity. Trails in the Sky 1st and 2nd are from a different genre but they're fantastic as well. To me Ys 8 stood out like a sore thumb and I'll never get the hype around it. It's good but not great imo.
