I see that. Quite vintage. I'm 46, but I didn't really grow up on playing anything else except a hand-me-down Intellivision, the handful of games on my dad's C64, and whatever was in the local arcade, but there was no one game that really stood out as something I'd consider formative. The first game to really blow me away was Super Mario Bros. I still remember the first time I saw that game. It was over at one of my mom's friends' house, and their sons had an NES. I absolutely had to have one of my own, and finally got my wish on Christmas Day of 1988. |
Yeah, some 10 years older. I was mainly exposed to arcades and home computers, and given that I had access to virtually everything on C64 and ZX, due to certain friend of mine, I played crapload of games back in those days, so I really got to see what's on offering, and I guess my personal interests played a big role in what stood out.
SMB is funny one for me - by the time I got to play SMB in later part of 80s, my taste in platforming was already pretty much set in stone, leaning toward exploration platformers and eventually Metroidvanias, so it never really clicked with me, though I find SMBs to be exceptionally crafted games.
