You are mostly right, especially historically, but there are actually a fair few King’s Field-like indie games launching in recent years. I’m mostly saying this to bring attention to them since I love the genre. Lunacid, Verho, Monomyth, Labyrinth of the Demon King, Hark the Ghoul, Queen’s Domain etc
