Bad news for shaman tank hopefuls—World of Warcraft: Forever won't have Season of Discovery's zany class design just yet: 'But never say never, y'know'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/world-of-warcraft/bad-news-for-shaman-tank-hopefuls-world-of-warcraft-forever-wont-have-season-of-discoverys-zany-class-design-just-yet-but-never-say-never-yknow/
World of Warcraft: Forever's an interesting pitch—instead of no changes, it's an all-changes version of vanilla WoW. Updated talent trees, new quests, essentially an envisioning of the OG game where, save for the new sky elves, all of the fresh additions are horizontal. New dungeons and raids all packaged within that original level 60 cap in good ol' Azeroth.
But given Blizzard just did Season of Discovery, at least one question was brewing in my mind—would the developer add some of the wilder class designs, like healing mages and shaman tanks, as optional skill trees or playstyles? Sadly not, says senior game designer Josh Greenfield in a recent GameSpot interview: "[Season of Discovery] was always meant to be ephemeral, and it allowed us to take some risks that we probably wouldn't really take in a 'forever' game. A lot of the changes, I think, in spirit—a lot of the lessons we learned—are carried over. But some of the more out there things that weren't originally in original WoW, we toned them back a little bit."

Microsoft hasn't marched Fable to the guillotine because it's 'vital to the DNA' of Xbox, says the game's director

Microsoft, at this point, drips gore from head to toe. The megacorp has made a hobby of shuttering studios and laying off thousands of devs, in attempt after attempt to right the listing ship of its games business. No luck yet, on that front.
You might wonder how Playground's upcoming Fable reboot, in the works for a decade now, has evaded its parent company's reign of terror. In a chat with The Guardian, Playground co-founder and Fable director Ralph Fulton offered up a pretty simple explanation: Fable's just that important.

Balatro developer LocalThunk turns up on Discord to talk about the 1.1 update and life after burnout: 'I truly am having the best time making the game now'

It's been a good while since we last heard about Balatro's big 1.1 update—a year, almost to the day, since developer LocalThunk delayed it into 2026. There's still no sign of it, but the community did catch sight of LocalThunk yesterday when he popped into the Balatro Discord to let everyone know that everything is going fine.

Have you heard the rumor that Bungie is looking to somehow merge Destiny and Marathon into a single series? I'll admit that I hadn't, until Marathon creative director Julia Nardin took to X to say flat-out that it's not true.

Back in May, myself and some of the fantastic PC Gaming Show team went to Finland to interview the brilliant creative minds at Remedy. We learned a lot about Control Resonant, the upcoming ARPG sequel to 2019's Control. We showed you a snippet of those interviews in our June PC Gaming Show, but now, we've declassified the full video.

FF14's new roguelike mode's leaderboards were accidentally encouraging players to min-max all the fun out of it, so it'll be 'postponing the start of Crucible Rankings'

I've had a very good time with Final Fantasy 14's new Beastmaster, and I've very much enjoyed the Crucible of the Unbroken—but that doesn't mean there aren't problems. While the first few boards are a great time, problems start to pop up when you try to be competitive.
Those problems have grown so numerous, in fact, that Square Enix has postponed the first season of the Crucible of the Unbroken's ranking system, as posted on the game's official site: "Since the release of beastmaster, we've seen many players enjoying the new limited job and tackling its challenges.
