Polyarc, developer of the excellent VR platforming series Moss, is shutting down after 12 years: 'We are saying our farewells to each other'

Polyarc, the studio behind the Moss series of VR platformers, has announced it is shutting down, three months on from releasing its latest game on Steam.
"After nearly 12 years riding the joyous rollercoaster of emotions that is making video games, our time together has come to an end," the studio posted on LinkedIn (via IGN). "As we wind down active development, we are saying our farewells to each other."

CD Projekt wanted to put a chain weapon in The Witcher 3 years ago, but it's taken until Songs of the Past because it was 'impossible to do at the time'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/the-witcher/cd-projekt-wanted-to-put-a-chain-weapon-in-the-witcher-3-years-ago-but-its-taken-until-songs-of-the-past-because-it-was-impossible-to-do-at-the-time/
The Witcher 3's recently revealed expansion Songs of the Past will bring more to CD Projekt's acclaimed fantasy adventure than a new region to explore and quests to pursue, it will also introduce a new weapon for Geralt of Rivia to wield—a gnarly silver chain. Well, "new" might not be a wholly appropriate term for it. Geralt's chain weapon—which appears in the novels—was originally seen in the opening cinematic for 2007's The Witcher, making it one of the earliest things players see in the trilogy. But it hasn't appeared as a tool players can use until now.
Apparently though, CD Projekt has previously considered introducing the chain, having discussed it more than a decade ago during The Witcher 3's original development: "We were talking about implementing the chain even during the original Witcher 3." Jakob Rokosz, Songs of the Past's Game Director, told BBC News (via GamesRadar+). "But it was impossible to do at the time for various technological reasons and challenges,

Square Enix scrambles to fix Final Fantasy 14 bug where new beastmaster could crash entire servers

Final Fantasy 14's latest job has just hit the proverbial shelves, and you know what that means: emergency maintenance to fix an extremely bizarre bug. On Sep. 8, the same day that the new beastmaster class dropped, Square Enix had to quickly patch out a bug where "if the player's character leaves the area due to a connection loss at the moment the pet uses a weapon skill that restores its master's HP, the server may crash."

Playing RTS with a controller? Total War: Warhammer 40,000 dev says it 'really does work' in their game: 'I think we've landed in a really solid spot'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rts/playing-rts-with-a-controller-total-war-warhammer-40-000-dev-says-it-really-does-work-in-their-game-i-think-weve-landed-in-a-really-solid-spot/
The kids who grew up playing StarCraft on Nintendo 64 must have thumbs of steel. With the exception of a handful of games designed specifically for consoles like Herzog Zwei and Halo Wars, the RTS has not been a genre that's played well with controllers. It remains the heartland of the mouse and keyboard.
And yet, Total War developer Creative Assembly is committed to releasing Total War: Warhammer 40,000 on consoles. The studio's battle product owner Dave Petry told TechRadar at Gamescom he thinks it's a "myth" that controller support doesn't work for the RTS genre and that they've "landed something that really does work."

Upcoming vampire RPG Nighthawks has been removed from Steam search and delisted in certain countries as Valve classifies it Adults Only: 'It's very bad news for us'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/upcoming-vampire-rpg-nighthawks-has-been-removed-from-steam-search-and-delisted-in-certain-countries-as-valve-classifies-it-adults-only-its-very-bad-news-for-us/
Nighthawks, the long-in-development vampire RPG due to be released later this month, is the latest game to run afoul of Steam's increasingly stringent rules regarding adult content. According to publisher Wadjet Eye Games, the game has been labelled 'Adults Only'—causing it to be removed from Steam search and outright delisted in certain countries like Germany—despite claims from both developer and publisher that the RPG's depictions of sex and nudity are very mild.
"We are aware that Steam has classified Nighthawks as an adult game and has excluded it from searches," Wadjet Eye boss Dave Gilbert wrote on Bluesky. "We are working on it. Valve is under the impression that this game is way sexier than it actually is." Gilbert further commented that "Valve is basically treating Nighthawks like a porn game!" in responding to a reply to his initial post.

Inzoi's director says he is 'very much focused on our core goals' as he announces a multiplayer roleplaying mode designed to be like Ready Player One
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/life-sim/inzois-director-says-he-is-very-much-focused-on-our-core-goals-as-he-announces-a-multiplayer-roleplaying-mode-designed-to-be-like-ready-player-one/
We all hoped that Inzoi would be the competitor to The Sims 4 that the life sim genre has needed for years. Thus far, though, things haven't quite panned out that way. Life sim expert Mollie Taylor described Inzoi's early access version as a "shallow imitation" of The Sims, while the game's own director Hyungjin "Kjun" Kim conceded that building a life sim has proven much harder than he anticipated.
Since then, Kim has spent the last year working on new features for InZoi, which I personally hope will result in a much richer simulation. But in his latest Steam update, Kim's focus was on something entirely different. Alongside the base game, Kim is apparently working on a whole new way to play called 'Canvastown'.

Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to Battle.net for some reason, and Geralt will be in Diablo 4
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/cyberpunk-2077-is-coming-to-battle-net-for-some-reason-and-geralt-will-be-in-diablo-4/
Wouldn't it be nice if more of Blizzard's classic games were available on Steam? People could easily play them on their Steam Decks! But no, that's not happening. Instead, we're getting Cyberpunk 2077 on Battle.net.
After announcing at GamesCom that The Witcher 3's upcoming remastered version would release on Battle.net as well as the expected platforms, Blizzard and CD Projekt have announced at BlizzCon that Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion will release there later this year. They'll be joining other non-Blizzard games everyone forgets are available on Battle.net like Sea of Thieves, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4, and The Outer Worlds 2.

The collaboration between Blizzard and CD Projekt will also be bringing Geralt to Diablo 4 in the form of a skin for the barbarian class, which will be available to players who prepurchase The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past DLC on Battle.net, with more "Witcher-themed content" threatened for 2027. Next year will also see Edgerunners-themed cosmetics coming to Overwatch. The show's second season will premiere on Netflix on October 20.

Fable system requirements seem reasonable but with a 30 fps target, it's hard to say for sure just yet
https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/fable-system-requirements-seem-reasonable-but-with-a-30-fps-target-and-no-mention-of-upscaling-its-hard-to-say-for-sure/
With Fable (it's just called Fable, but it's technically Fable 4) set to release on February 23 next year, we finally have its system requirements. And for a big budget game launching in 2027, they're not too bad.

: Xbox has since updated its specs to include mention of upscaling support, and clarified to PC Gamer that the targeted resolutions are achieved without upscaling. That's good news, and should mean you will get better performance with a hand from your upscaler of choice.
