I personally don't care about GOTY awards at all. Also how did fallout 4 get more than Bloodborne, that's hilarious. Bloodborne is far and away sony's best release over the last 2 console generations. With Astro Bot in a distant 2nd place.

I had a quick look and Nintendo will have close to 70 retail releases between 2020 and the end of 2026 (not including basic ports like 3d allstars, pikmin 1+2, skyward sword hd etc.). Sony are coming up on 30 (6 being mlb games, 1 concord rip, a few others are multiplat). Microsoft is confusing mess to sort through. Most are multiplat and a lot were mostly developed before they bought certain companies.

So I would say Sony are definitely lagging behind Nintendo at the moment.

I disagree. I prefer Sony's titles and production strategy.

I believe the initiative to invest heavily in a smaller number of blockbusters is appropriate for Playstation.

IMHO, Number of critically acclaimed > Number of small titles.

Between third-party titles and exclusives, I actually spend a lot of time with the 6-9 titles I play per year.

Of course, this is all a personal choice:

The greater number of critically acclaimed blockbuster games vs. a greater number of small, low-budget games with lower quality.

But sony's most acclaimed game of the generation is Astrobot which is pretty low budget compared to all the usual big budget blockbusters sony has been making. It's not like Nintendo has less critically acclaimed games either. Nintendo are making more games, equally or even more acclaimed games and games in a wider variety of genres as Sony.

Budget does not equal quality in any way. Some of the absolute best games of the generation have been lower budget indie games or mid budget games. Expedition 33 had a budget of roughly 10 million, hollow knight, hades 2 and many other phenomenal games have low budgets. Spider man 2 had a massive budget, but was in many ways a step down from the first game.

The problem a lot of massive budget games have is that they can end up feeling soulless, which is something that has hit sony hard in recent years. The games often feel so safe and lack any real charm or distinguishing features, they are good in all the technical ways, to get good reviews, but tend to feel made by committee. It's why I think there lower budget games like Astro and helldivers 2 are a lot more interesting.
