He can’t just give up or he’ll have a ton of disaffected vets that might start a revolution on his ass, and so he must keep fighting even to the point of destroying Russia. I know Russia is in a tough spot, and I'm sure many will attribute that to Putin himself (for good reason too). I'm also equally sure that Putin is well familiar with history and has accounted for it to the best of his ability.
