Samsung announces 2027 Odyssey monitors with 1,100 Hz IPS and 720 Hz QD-OLED modes

https://videocardz.com/newz/samsung-announces-2027-odyssey-monitors-with-1100-hz-ips-and-720-hz-qd-oled-modes

But why...

As far as I'm aware, there are two races when it comes to displays.

On the TV side of it, the race is for brightness. They're all competing to have the brightest one in the market. Why do they want to turn viewers blind when a sunny scene appears on the screen is beyond me, but that's what it is.

On the monitor side of the business, the brightness race is also present for OLED monitors, but there's also a refresh rate competition to have the fastest one, and while pixel response time is faster on OLEDs, planel refresh is faster on traditional panels like IPS. Why is the refresh rate so important? Because of e-ports, of course. They want games to run at the highest frame-rates possible (that's why they usually play at lower graphical settings than a regular player would, to push fps up) and they need monitors capable of displaying all those frames so they can see the target coming out of their hiding spot sooner to shoot it.

And since e-sport players want that, surely everybody else also wants it, right?
