However, here in America at least there's alot of games over the past 2 generations that appeal to minorities with their urban/hip-hop influenced themes... NBA games and NFL games for example feature mostly african-americans as cover athletes (Brett Farve on this year's Madden is the first white guy in quite some time) and other games like the Def Jam games, the last couple GTAs etc have non-white/minorities as the main protagonists. This is something that was pretty much completely unheard of going from the 32/64bit generations and back. Games are also alot different from say movies or music where those two forms of entertainment have their own built in themes/influences based on their origin and the culture around them. Games on the other hand are very action-oriented for the most part and since they were basically created by the western market, games are made to satisfy what the western market wants. There's no underlying racism or anything like that, it's just the way things work out. I personally dont have a problem with someone modding CS so that u kill americans... ive seen alot worse things in the independant/homebrew market than that. And for example in COD4's multiplayer u take both sides so u can be arabs/russians killing american/british forces, and again i have no problem with that whatsoever, it's a fictitious game anyway. |
Yeah but such games don't really have a main character and celebrities are above the realm of normal. Even blatant racists forget that the running back is Black when he makes a TD!
