I actually think all 3 consoles in that gen can claim some kind of success.
- The Wii kept Nintendo relevant and in the business, and completely revolutionized gaming with motion controls, albeit for a short period.
- X360 propelled the Xbox brand for "hardcore" gamers and tried/quadrupled the original xbox install base. Additionally, a lot of great PS2 exclusive series went to xbox, shifting power away from Sony
- PS3 had a terrible launch, but Sony learned from their mistakes and managed to climb back to a very respectable spot in terms of sales and gaming library. I believe Sony learned a lot from what happened during this gen and that made PS4 successful. Unfortunately this was not the case with PS5... even though it's an even greater financial success!
